What exactly do you see on your screen? What video card do you have?

If you are using an NVidia card, see 0003872 for a possible work-around.

Hello rhertzog,

i am really sure, that "tyuiop" get the screen like in "nopossiblelogin.jpg" which I got several times too :P

Just over a usual system install. Then I have only

apt-get update && apt-get upgrade && apt-get dist-upgrade

And in addition on the second try: I have read the Kali Linux Documentation for Nvidia drivers like here: http://docs.kali.org/general-use/install-nvidia-drivers-on-kali-linux

The actual dist-upgrade, installs the linux-headers directly and the third instruction is in this case senseless:

"apt-get install -y linux-headers-$(uname -r)"

because $(uname -r) is after the complete dist-upgrade (in that moment) "4.6.0-kali1-amd64" when the user attempts to enter it...

But there is another interesting thing too, that I could not understand till now.

I updated grub etc. and then rebooted..

And I see at the extended boot option menu (I don't know the exact conception of that at the moment *shame*

Two different linux-kernel versions? The 4.6 and the 4.9? But why?

OK rhertzog,

i bypassed the bug like follows:

1. I downloaded a weekly build, the kali-linux-2017-W08-amd64.iso.
2. Installed it as usual(the ACPI errors were still there, even at the installation, but it runs)
3. directly executed commands: "apt-get update && apt-get upgrade && apt-get dist-upgrade

The Installation was completely successful and so on. Only the ACPI errors are a little bit annoying.

But the most important thing: I looked for new BIOS updates for my system, but the latest is already installed and I have often googled for a solution, with no success.

My Laptop is a HP Envy dv7 7300SG.

I will attach some screenshots from my lshw output.

samuls28 please don't hijack other bug reports with your own problem unless you have enough proofs that you are encountering the same problem.

tyuiop we have updated the linux kernel to version 4.9.13. Let us know if this fixes your issues. If it doesn't please share some useful logs (login through a text console and attach the output of "journalctl"). In the mean time, I'm closing this ticket as there's nothing actionable.
