PlatformRaspberry PiOSkali LinuxOS Version1.0.6a image
Product Version1.0.6
Summary0001427: Intermittent failure of startx command
Description

This problem occurred on one of our cards, but not the others. Our cards are understood to be the same product from the manufacturer.

It seems doubtful that the card itself is defective because an internet search reveals similar symptoms suffered by others using Kali and other Debian based operating systems. I have run a fsck on the card from another computer running another operating system.

Steps To Reproduce

The image was put onto the card using Win32DiskImager. Placing the card into a Raspberry Pi, on first bootup no problem is encountered. After first boot, a text console is given and typing startx, takes the user to a desktop. The user is asked to choose an option between default or empty panel. The problem occurs with either choice.

After reboot, through logout on the desktop, startx is ineffective. Instead of taking the user to the desktop, a black screen is rendered with a pointer which the mouse does move. No further progress in rendering the desktop is observed. The user is left only with the option of returning to a text console.

Is that Xorg.0.log the one that shows up once the problem occurs?

Could you also show the file .xsession-errors (should be in /root/ ) please?

Due to the age of the OS (Kali Moto [v1], Kali Safi [v2], Kali Rolling 2016.x), these legacy versions are no longer supported.
We will be closing this ticket due to inactivity.

Please could you see if you are able to replicate this issue with the latest version of Kali Linux - https://www.kali.org/downloads/)?

If you are still facing the same problem, feel free to re-open the ticket. If you choose to do this, could you provide more information to the issue you are facing, and also give information about your setup?
