Please provide the logs of your installation. They are available in /var/log/installer on your installed system (in "thumb drive B").

Also when you say "grub now boots into recovery mode", what are you referring to?

Is it a "recovery mode" of Linux Mint? of Kali?

What do you see in the grub boot menu?

Grub booted into grub recovery mode of linux mint, before repairs were done i was able to only boot into linux mint if i had thumb drive B plugged in (kali) then spammed f12 to boot from hard disk. If i tried to boot into my hard disk without thumbdrive B plugged in, i would get a error of thumbdrive B not plugged in while it was supposed to simply boot into linux mint from my hard disk. I think this has something to do with kali overwriting grub on linux mint because i should be able to boot into linux mint without kali grub and also my boot order in my bios was hard disk 1st and USB 2nd, i did not understand what specific log you were looking for in /var/log/installer so i tar'd the file and sent the whole directory.

Hum, the logs are not very helpful as to what happened exactly. The call to grub-install mentions no device:

Aug 11 23:01:44 grub-installer: info: Installing grub on 'dummy'
Aug 11 23:01:44 grub-installer: info: grub-install does not support --no-floppy
Aug 11 23:01:44 grub-installer: info: Running chroot /target grub-install --force "dummy"
Aug 11 23:01:45 grub-installer: Installing for x86_64-efi platform.
Aug 11 23:02:17 grub-installer: Installation finished. No error reported.
Aug 11 23:02:17 grub-installer: info: grub-install ran successfully

I guess it depends on what was mounted in /target/boot/EFI... but I was not able to find any other indication before hand of what could have been mounted there. However it clearly detected the EFI partition on the first harddisk and on the second thumb drive:

Due to the age of the OS (Kali Moto [v1], Kali Safi [v2], Kali Rolling 2016.x), these legacy versions are no longer supported.
