| Description | after the update and the dist-upgrade commands kali wont boot and get stuck at black screen before login, and i have 4.9.0 and 4.6.0 from advanced options and both are not working i went to recovery mode and did the update and dist-upgrade again it downloaded some files but nothing got fixed, i tried to update VirtualBox but nothing changed,i edited grub and dropped the "quiet" term but i didn't see anything irregular. | ||||

Do you have virtualbox-guest-x11 and virtualbox-guest-dkms installed in your virtual machine ? dpkg -s virtualbox-guest-x11 virtualbox-guest-dkms |

yes i updated it but i got nothing,iam using the version designed for vbox, ill reinstall the system and ill be doing the same commands to see if this will occur again |

Has the situation improved with all the latest kernel updates (we're on Linux 4.12 now) ? |

Due to the age of the OS (Kali Moto [v1], Kali Safi [v2], Kali Rolling 2016.x/2017.1), these legacy versions are no longer supported. Please could you see if you are able to replicate this issue with the latest version of Kali Linux - https://www.kali.org/downloads/)? If you are still facing the same problem, feel free to re-open the ticket. If you choose to do this, could you provide more information to the issue you are facing,and also give information about your setup? |
