Summary | 0004375: Kali MATE - No networking
Description | wpa_supplicant & network-manager etc are not installed with the MATE ISO. Using Live Boot or an Installation have the same issue. There is no networking capability. (USB Tether, Ethernet & Wifi are all broken) Networking and downloading from the network mirror during installation works fine. Networking is lost after initial reboot. The other ISOs work fine both as installs or Live Boot.
Steps To Reproduce | Install or Live Boot using any Kali 2017.# ISO
Steps to reproduce: Install or Live Boot using any Kali 2017.# MATE* ISO |

I tested the other Kali Mate ISO 2016.2 and I have the same issue. I vaguely remember using it on Inspiron 7567, MATE was very unstable. The taskbar panel extensions kept crashing. When it would boot I had to click "recover" 5-6 times on the extension crash prompt. Long story short, MATE had networking. Though that was 6 months ago, I cant remember if I used the Default ISO and installed MATE or if I used the MATE ISO. As far as I'm concerned, at the moment, none of the Kali Rolling MATE isos work on my end. Weekly build included. |

Noticed this issue myself. its network-manager thats missing. i just plugged into my LAN via ethernet cable did ip link set eth0 up then dhclient eth0 then apt-get install network-manager. slightly annoying problem but easily worked around. |

Due to the age of the OS (Kali Moto [v1], Kali Safi [v2], Kali Rolling 2016.x/2017.x), these legacy versions are no longer supported. Please could you see if you are able to replicate this issue with the latest version of Kali Linux - https://www.kali.org/downloads/)? If you are still facing the same problem, feel free to re-open the ticket. If you choose to do this, could you provide more information to the issue you are facing, and also give information about your setup? |
