Summary0004630: Replace / Add a tool - CherryTree editor vs KeepNote
Description

I was the one who suggested KeepNote years ago as a tree-based note taking application. Unfortunately KeepNote is prone to crashing and has very weak support.

In the past few years a new, better editor which works on all major platforms has been released - CherryTree https://www.giuspen.com/cherrytree/ - open source, present in the ubuntu repos

Has much more features, lightweight, etc.

Hence I ask for the addition of CherryTree and / or replacing KeepNote with it.

It is invaluable in documenting large projects, pentests, etc.

Should already be in the repos 0004269 (https://bugs.kali.org/view.php?id=4269)

The main point was to include it in the standard ISO, as it fully replaces keepnote - keepnote as such could be removed to save space, it would not be needed anymore.

This switch already happened. keepnote is not in the meta-package any longer but cherrytree is:
http://git.kali.org/gitweb/?p=packages/kali-meta.git;a=commitdiff;h=0c3e2784db9e6c127199bc8e7dd181c8a8cff637

But right now none of the options are very satisfying. Upstream development of cherrytree is not keeping up with the evolution of the environment. cherrytree has been dropped from Debian Testing:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=822586

And the upstream developer is far from having solved the problem since he's doing a full rewrite to another graphical library:
https://github.com/giuspen/cherrytree/issues/125

I have been using "zim" for ages and it fits my needs very well. It's also part of kali-linux-full. Does it meet all your use cases?

Due to the age of the OS (Kali Moto [v1], Kali Safi [v2], Kali Rolling 2016.x/2017.x/2018.1), these legacy versions are no longer supported.
We will be closing this ticket due to inactivity.

...And there is a internal review of meta packages in the works
