Description

The root account's Home directory is empty prior to this report
Not even the Desktop Shortcut on the side bar works

Steps To Reproduce
  1. Download the image from https://archive.kali.org/kali-daily-images/
  2. Install Kali Linux
  3. After install open Home directory of the root account
  4. it's empty

Can you check if you have the xdg-user-dirs package installed?
If not please try to install it and reboot.

The problem no longer exists in kali linux
