What options are you choosing to install? 10GB storage may be too small. https://www.kali.org/docs/troubleshooting/troubleshooting-a-kali-linux-install/

I've tried 2GB RAM and 20GB storage on VMware and it crashed too.
I've done it using the network install option and also downloaded the full version.
All at the point just after "select and install software" - message on screen shows there's about 2000+ components to install and it crashed about half way through, i.e. after 1000+.

I've also downloaded the VMware image which starts up but as soon as I do a "apt update" and "apt upgrade", it crashed big time and I think it's at about same point because I saw a message saying "extra tools" or something like that.
