Hello, so what version of Kali are you trying to install? Weekly image or 2022.4? Do you use the normal installer iso (~ 4 GB), or the netinst? On my side I did a quick check, and it seems that this firmware is included:
If you didn't do that yet: please try again with the latest weekly image. |
|
I installed the normal 3.5GB installer. On the Asus Vivobook there is no ethernet port and the processors are quite recent so during the detection of network hardware, the installer crashes because of these missing firmware. I had to add these firmwares manually. To install Kali Linux I had to skip the network hardware detection by adding "exit 0" in the /bin/check-missing-firmware and adding these firmwares manually once Kali Linux installed with another USB key. |
|
I just checked and the package firmware-misc-nonfree, as it is in both the installer 2022.4 and weekly, provides the 3 files mentioned above.
So how did you do that, can you be more precise? Which firmware file did you install, from where did you get it? Thanks! |

I found a zip archive on a website that I forgot and no longer have. But I still have all the files as on the screenshot and I put a link on my website https://download.killianferrier.fr/mediatek.zip if you want. I put all the files on a USB key and after installing Kali Linux through network detection, I put my USB key on my computer and I copied the mediatek folder into the firmware files /lib/firmware/. But there are still mistakes when I want to install the amdgpu package. I created a web page to explain how to solve the problem but it is in frensh. The link: https://linux.killianferrier.fr in "Kali installation Asus Vivobook". |
|
That might be fixed in the next weekly image, that will be released next Monday. |
|
Please try again with latest version of Kali (2023.1) that was just released. Thanks! |

I had the same issue with the firmware-mediatek package comming with Kali and a Alfa AWUS036AXM. I downloaded the linux drivers package from the ALFA Networks website and copied BT_RAM_CODE_MT7961_1_2_hdr.bin and WIFI_MT7961_patch_mcu_1_2_hdr.bin to /lib/firmware/mediatek. Chipset: MediaTek MT7921AUN (IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax) |

Hey, I'm closing this bug as it's super old. These days, if you're running kali-rolling and need firmware for mediatek hardware, make sure to install the package |
