Is this problem really specific to Kali? It seems rather unlikely. We are not modifying anything compared to to Debian. Maybe you should reconfigure your terminal to start login shells? Because /etc/profile is only executed for login shells. In any case, we will not investigate this issue in Kali, so please report this directly to Debian.
