Summary | 0006620: Unable to Snort after trying everything!
Description | Hi everyone However running these commands: apt-get update apt-get install snort I get the error message over and over: "E: Unable to locate package Snort" I have also tried doing a complete re-install on my VM of Kali Linux ISO disc image Other things I have tried at one stage: Going to the Now I can't even seem to find my sources.list or it doesn't give me access. Anyone know how to do a re-install of Kali Linux from the terminal? Surely that is possible. I also maybe I should have said yes to mirrors in the setup stage since it mentioned you have a limited setup? I need to get this sorted asap so I can start working on SNORT itself. I have done everything other people have mentioned and nothing has worked. I did think using the dpkg command would work but no... I think this is a bug...and if it is not why is calling up packages such a challenge in Kali post-installation. I have seen so many people struggling for days like me all over the web.

You can't install snort because it's no longer in Kali (since March 2020): Kali is based in Debian Testing and the package has been removed from Testing because of serious issue during upgrade. |
