Summary | 0002483: Variants e17, mate, and i3wm for sana do not boot to desktop
Description | For the e17, mate, and i3wm variants, the live boot and the disk install do not boot into the desktop. For the live boot, you need to enter the credentials first and then it boots to the desktop. When they are installed to disk, when you enter the credentials, you then need to run startx to get to the desktop; it doesn't launch like the live boot does.
I'm not quite sure how you expect me to fix this... shall we add some display manager in those variants so that we have Xorg auto-started? If yes, which one? Or are you looking for something else? Up to now I was assuming that those variants were ok as is with the requirement to use "startx". After all that's what happens too when you follow the instructions on http://docs.kali.org/development/customize-the-kali-desktop-environment doesn't it? |

I'm just reporting the issue as it is a deviation from gnome, kde, and lxde. If it's by design, just close this issue. |

I just confirmed with Mati that this is by design for those variants. Closing the ticket. |
