Summary0003185: KDE desktop does not have the Kali menu tree
Description

Both after a live upgrade and after a fresh install of the KDE desktop on Kali
Rolling Release the Kali menu tree is no longer available in the application
menu. Before the upgrade on Kali2 the Kali menu options were there and working
great.

Steps To Reproduce

From Kali2 the KDE menu is working.
Changed repo source
apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade
KDE breaks

From a fresh install
apt-get install kali-desktop-kde
KDE installs but no Kali metapackage trees.

Bo here on another account. The account I first sent this on is locked out and I can't get the "forgot password" page. It appears blank when the link is clicked. I ran a upgrade on a VM and the results were the same no metapackage trees in KDE. I have attached a PDF with the results and a error message related to this. Hope it helps.

We confirmed the issue on our side, it looks like a regression in the KDE menu...

The update-kali-menu failure is temporary, it happened due to a simultaneous perl upgrade but once perl is finished upgrading, the next invocations should have worked.

I have just ran dist-upgrade and the system is fully upgraded. The menus still aren't there. Ideas?

I just wanted to check to see if there was a fix to this problem yet. I ran an upgrade again last night and still no kali menus. Sorry to be a bother I do appreciate the help.

The new version 2016.2.5 of kali-menu package includes a fix. It will be available in few hours.
