Summary0008950: Console stuck and other tabs stuck. Can't move windows around and can't full screen them.
Description

On my utm virtualization I downloaded Kali Linux and did the correct setup for it. Once completed I ran the sudo apt-get update command and then sudo apt-get upgrade to update the necessary things and start using the OS on my Mac. However once I did the updates and rebooted the system, it looks like it's working fine but the windows aren't movable and I can't resize them to fit my screen. You can work around it but its still a bit annoying to deal with

How did you manage to work arround with this, I reinstalled my machines and after running update this issue appears.
No Close/Minimize/Maximize buttons either

I just figured out that when you download 2024.03 x64 and after installation run "apt-get update && apt-get upgrade + reboot" the window manager gets corrupted.

Just downloaded the weekly of 0000042 (kali-linux-2024-W42-installer-amd64.iso), after installation doing the same steps "apt-get update && apt-get upgrade + reboot", everything works fine.

having the same issue. But as I'm ona RPI5 and there is no weekly package for pi5.. only thing I can do as a workaround that works is adding a new user each time. On first logon it works fine.. on second logon even if I don't save the session xfwm4 is gone.. If I run it manually it then makes xfce4-panel disappear.. If I run that something else happens.. A user can log on and use xfce properly just one time.. A fixed RPI5 image would be great. Thanks.

doing a "sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" solved the problem.

same issue after having upgraded to 2024.4.

Distributor ID: Kali
Description: Kali GNU/Linux Rolling
Release: 2024.4
Codename: kali-rolling

xfwm4 --version
This is xfwm4 version 4.18.0 (revision 7e7473c5b) for Xfce 4.18
Released under the terms of the GNU General Public License.
Compiled against GTK+-3.24.41, using GTK+-3.24.43.

As a workaround I do the following after having logged in, but in long-term hoping that gets fixed soon.
=> xfwm4 &

Could be possible that this need to be reported to the development team of the problematic software / package rather then to Kali.

If this is xfwm4 this could be https://docs.xfce.org/xfce/xfwm4/start#reporting_bugs
