Summary0009601: Regression: External display (HDMI/DP) not detected on Lenovo [isi tipe laptop, misal: P51] with Quadro M2200 after upgrading to
Description

System Info:

  • OS: Kali Linux Rolling (Kernel 6.18.12+kali-amd64)
  • CPU/iGPU: Intel HD Graphics 630 [8086:591b]
  • dGPU: NVIDIA Quadro M2200 (Maxwell)
  • Device: Lenovo [17aa:224d]

Problem Description:
After performing a full-upgrade to Kernel 6.18.12, the external monitor connected via HDMI/DisplayPort is no longer detected by xrandr. It was working perfectly on previous kernels.

Technical Details:

  • "nvidia-smi" confirms the NVIDIA driver is loaded.
  • "xrandr" only lists eDP-1. No other outputs (HDMI/DP) are visible.
  • The external ports on this Lenovo model are hardwired to the NVIDIA dGPU.
  • Attempted fixes including "nvidia-drm.modeset=1", switching between proprietary and nouveau drivers, and using "envycontrol" all failed to wake up the external port.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Boot with Kernel 6.18.12+kali-amd64.
  2. Connect external monitor to HDMI or Mini-DP port.
  3. Run "xrandr" and observe that only the internal display is recognized.

Temporary Workaround:
Booting into an older kernel via GRUB Advanced Options restores the external display functionality.

Probably needs to be reported to Kernel/driver devs, not to Kali just packaging those.

Kali team clearly stated in various bug reports they can't offer support for hardware issues.
