Summary0009917: linux: recurring NVMe timeouts behind Intel VMD 8086:7d0b and slow boot on ASUS B3605CCA (7.1.5-1kali1)
Description

Kali kernel 7.1.5+kali-amd64 has long boot delays and recurring NVMe "timeout, completion polled" errors on my ASUS ExpertBook B3 B3605CCA.

Hardware:
Core Ultra 5 225H, 16GB RAM.
Samsung MZVMA512HCLV-00BTW NVMe, firmware MXE7101Q.
Intel VMD 8086:7d0b enabled; driver vmd.
NVMe 144d:a811; driver nvme.
Intel graphics 8086:7dd1; driver i915.
Windows 11/Kali UEFI dual boot on the same SSD.

Package/source: linux 7.1.5-1kali1.
dpkg -V linux-modules-7.1.5+kali-amd64 produced no output.

Comparison on the same installation:
6.12.25: kernel 4.093s + userspace 18.566s.
7.1.5: kernel 2.964s + userspace 104.349s.
The old kernel ALSO logs NVMe timeouts, but boots much faster.

Current dmesg examples:
[33.806803] nvme nvme0: I/O tag 69 (1045) QID 3 timeout, completion polled
[65.551079] nvme nvme0: I/O tag 111 (306f) QID 1 timeout, completion polled
Further timeouts continue after startup.

SMART: PASSED, critical warning 0, media/data integrity errors 0, error log entries 0. This does not exclude driver/transport issues.

Test performed:
Added mei_me and mei_gsc_proxy to initramfs, rebuilding only 7.1.5. GSC proxy binding improved from 65.12s to 1.56s and its timeout disappeared in the inspected boot. NVMe timeouts, DSB poll error and visible delays remain.
Latest timing: kernel 2.414s + userspace 63.142s.
This configuration remains present. Boot times vary.

No BIOS VMD, GRUB parameters, APST or ASPM settings were changed.

Possible connection, NOT confirmed on my machine:

The upstream discussion covers 8086:7d0b on Arrow Lake-H:

Could you assess applicability and backport availability for Kali? I have not tested this patch. Additional logs are available. Windows bootability and existing partitions must be preserved.
