Summary0008646: Title: Window Size Reduced After Update in GNOME Desktop Environment
Description

After updating Kali GNU/Linux Rolling to version 2024.1, I encountered an issue where the window size of all applications, including third-party ones, has been significantly reduced. Prior to the update, the window sizes were normal, and no changes were made to the display settings or tweaks. However, post-update, all application windows are smaller, affecting usability and readability. Notably, the taskbar, cursor size, and menu size remain unchanged. This issue persists across various applications and persists after multiple reboots. This bug impacts user experience and productivity within the GNOME desktop environment on Kali Linux.

This seems to be related to gnome-settings-daemon and gnome-settings-daemon-common 46~beta-1. Rolling back to 45.1-1 temporarily resolves this issue.
The new version doesn't honor display scaling settings or gmome tweaks text scaling.

Report a bug to GNOME instead of here?

The version of gnome-settings-daemon in Kali 2024.1 is 45.1-1. In kali rolling there is version 46~beta-2. Can you confirm if the issue is still present with gnome-settings-daemon 46~beta-2?

I am on kali rolling and gnome-settings-daemon 46~beta-2 fixed the issue.

Thank you for the quick reply! It's probably been fixed with this commit: https://salsa.debian.org/gnome-team/gnome-settings-daemon/-/commit/53b7f0c2799d460e9480329cfe26843863d926ed which fixed the issue reported at https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1064438.

Closing the bug report then. Thanks again!
