Summary | 0001939: Second partition on thumbdrive does not end at a cylinder boundary
Description | When creating a bootable thumbdrive, it is not possible to create another (primary) partition (useable on Windows) on a thumbdrive since the EFI/UEFI partition does not end on a cylinder boundary. Even when specifying the next cylinder, Windows still complains the second partition (EFI/UEFI) needs to be formatted and doesn't mount the third (formatted) partition (Computer management sees it but you can only delete it, you cannot format or do anything else).
Steps To Reproduce | Use Win32DiskImager or dd (block size shouldn't matter but I tested with 512k or 1M) and install 1.0.9a ISO (I tested 64 and 32 bit). I tested on several SanDisk Cruzer Blade 8Gb. Then open it with fdisk on Kali.
Additional Information | I can give you access to my system if needed.
Due to the age of the OS (Kali Moto [v1], Kali Safi [v2], Kali Rolling 2016.x), these legacy versions are no longer supported. Please could you see if you are able to replicate this issue with the latest version of Kali Linux - https://www.kali.org/downloads/)? If you are still facing the same problem, feel free to re-open the ticket. If you choose to do this, could you provide more information to the issue you are facing, and also give information about your setup? |
