Summary | 0005294: USB drive partitions are automatically mounted read-write in forensic mode
Description | I'm testing Kali LXDE 2019.1, booting from DVD. After booting Kali in forensic mode, if you plug in a USB hard drive the partitions on it are mounted read-write without any user interaction. So they are written to, modifying their contents. That's definitely not something that should happen in forensic mode without warning IMHO. If the user remembers to disable volume management in PCManFM before plugging in the drive, that stops its partitions being automatically mounted.
Steps To Reproduce | Boot Kali LXDE DVD, log in. Plug in a USB hard drive. Do "cat /proc/mounts" and notices its partitions were mounted rw.
Due to the age of the OS (Kali Moto [v1], Kali Safi [v2], Kali Rolling <= 2018.4), these legacy versions are no longer supported. Please could you see if you are able to replicate this issue with the latest version of Kali Linux - https://www.kali.org/downloads/)? If you are still facing the same problem, feel free to re-open the ticket. If you choose to do this, could you provide more information to the issue you are facing, and also give information about your setup? |
