| Summary | 0001308: live-boot fails | ||||
| Description | I installed the Kali Linux 64 bit ISO 1.0.7 to a 16 GB USB drive. I have done this with both the UNetbootin and Win32DiskImager. I have tried with the drive formatted for FAT32 and NTFS. I have then booted on multiple systems. In all cases the install appears to succeed and the boot appears to succeed, but booting fails. The error is "Can not mount /dev/loop0 (live/medium/live/filesystem.squashfs) on //filesystem.squashfs" | ||||

This appears to be the same problem reported in 802. I have replicated it on two Dell Latitude D630s and a Dell Latitude E6400. |

Please use the recommended methods to image our ISOs on a USB key and try again. |

Thanks for your response. I am sorry, apparently my description was unclear. I did the install following the instructions, using the three steps listed in the "Kali Linux Live USB Install Procedure" here: http://docs.kali.org/installation/kali-linux-live-usb-install. This can be seen in the attached screenshot "kali usb install.jpg". The install is successful. When I boot using the USB drive I get the Kali menu, as shown in the attached image "Kali menu.jpg." When I select the normal live option or the live failsafe option it runs, then fails with the message described, and seen in the attached image "kali 386 failure.jpg." I had similar results with the AMD x64 version, with a slightly different error, shown in the image "kali x64 failure.jpg." Because I failed with both 386 and x64 on two different machines, in exactly the same way in all instances I decided to try with a different USB installer to see if that resolved the problem. I used UNetBootin based on comments left by others in the forums. The results were the same. This led me to the conclusion that the installation on the USB drive was not the problem. Regards, (I tried to send this via email but it failed. I do not see any way to attach files here.) |

Ah, I found how to upload the images. |

Add an Optiplex 3010 to the systems that are failing with the same basic error. That makes 2 models of laptop and one desktop, all failing in the same way. Note that they are all Dell machines. We are a Dell shop so I do not have anything else to try. |
