Summary0001968: nvidia-kernel-dkms
DescriptionThe nvidia-kernel-dkms does not support the geforce gtx 980 graphics card. After the installation of nvidia-kernel-dkms I get a black screen with a blinking cursor at the top left corner of the screen. So I preform the procedure of ctrl + Alt + F1 and logging in as root and issuing the command nvidia-xconfig and then reboot. After the computer reboots it returns back to the black screen with the blinking cursor.
Steps To Reproduceapt-get update && apt-get upgrade -y && apt-get dist-upgrade -y

aptitude -r install linux-headers-$(uname -r)

apt-get install nvidia-kernel-$(uname -r)

aptitude install nvidia-kernel-dkms

aptitude install nvidia-xconfig

nvidia-xconfig

reboot
Additional InformationThis procedure works with my geforce gtx 770 card but not my new geforce gtx 980 card. Please help me and thank you!

Hello, do you still have the problem with Kali Linux 1.1.0a ?

I don't know if it works now or not. I ended up installing the driver off of the nvidia website and it allowed my gtx 980 card to work, but my gtx 770 would not work. Then after some research I discovered that I did not disable the nouveau driver. So after I blacklisted the nouveau driver both cards worked together just fine. I still want to repeat the procedure with the nvidia-kernel-dkms driver to see if I am able to get it to work or not

Hello, can you do a new try or not?

If not, I'll close the ticket.

Otherwise, it would be nice if you could test the new kernel in 1.1.0a ?

If it still doesn't work, then it would nice to test the kernel 3.18.11 in a daily image:
http://archive.kali.org/kali-daily-images/kali-linux-daily-amd64.iso

(The above link will have the correct kernel in a few hours once the current build will have finished, the timestamp on http://archive.kali.org/kali-daily-images/ should be newer than 20-Apr-2015 06:59).
