Summary0002563: Installer in Kali 2.0 64bit mini iso doesn't works with usb keyboards/mouse
Description

I'm trying to install Kali 2.0 (amd64) on a HP Proliant Microserver with a Logitech K400 usb keyboard/mouse using mini iso. USB keyboard which works fine until installer reaches (first) "Select a language" screen. At this point the keyboard becomes unresponsive.

Same keyboard works without problems using Debian 8.0/8.1 mini iso images.

Steps To Reproduce

Burn http://cdimage.kali.org/kali-2.0/kali-linux-mini-2.0-amd64.iso in a HP Microserver with a Logitech k400 usb keyboard/mouse

Please, this problem continues with Sana and Safi.

Is it possible to resolve it?.

Can you test with http://http.kali.org/dists/kali-rolling/main/installer-amd64/current/images/netboot/gtk/mini.iso and let us know if it works better for you ?

(It will install the kali-rolling version of Kali but that's the next release)

Test it, and problem continues. USB keyboard is not detected and installer stops at "Select language..."

Can you test http://ftp.debian.org/debian/dists/stretch/main/installer-amd64/current/images/netboot/gtk/mini.iso too ?

Because if the kali-rolling ISO fails, then the Debian Testing ISO should fail in the same way and then we should report this problem to Debian directly.

Sorry for the delay response.

It doesn't works. But this time is worst, because I can't choose between "Install" or "Advanced Options/Expert Install". Keyboard doesn't works.

More info.

These ISO works:
http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/archive/8.0.0/amd64/iso-cd/debian-8.0.0-amd64-netinst.iso
http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/archive/8.1.0/amd64/iso-cd/debian-8.1.0-amd64-netinst.iso

But this not:
http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/release/8.2.0/amd64/iso-cd/debian-8.2.0-amd64-netinst.iso

rhertzob,

I think this issue is reported in Debian Bug Tracking:

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=795537

Do you use legacy BIOS or EFI boot on your computer?

Can you provide me the output of "reportbug --template linux-image-4.3.0-kali1-amd64" after having booted in live mode with the following ISO:
http://archive.kali.org/kali-daily-images/kali-linux-rolling-amd64.iso

Answer "yes" to any question you might be asked. You might have to "apt-get install reportbug" if it's not available. At the end it will list a file that you can just attach here.

Can you also confirm that the keyboard does work in live mode but does not work if you select the "Install" boot menu on that ISO?

I think I have understood the problem.

So your bug is effectively already reported on the Debian side but the detailed explanation is in this one: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=796096

We need to add hid-logitech-hidpp to the input-modules udeb. I'll upload a fixed kernel and rebuild debian-installer once the new kernel is available.
