Description

Hi everyone

after reinstalling kali linux amd64 2017.1, I installed synaptic, cinnamon and lightdm, then logged into cinnamon desktop. then I decided to upgrade icons for a better look, searched the word "icon" in synaptic, it showed a lot of programs, I scroll the list down and start to mark the installed application for upgrading, then hit the Apply button
here is the list of updates:

Upgraded the following packages:
gtk-update-icon-cache (3.22.11-1) to 3.22.18-1

}

after upgrade, nothing happened, I then rebooted the system, as I expected my icons have changed, but there was some consequences:

in system setting, I could still make changes in the system setting items, but it didn't have any effect on he system
for example backgrounds changes in the system setting windows but desktop still had the same picture (default one)

touchpad (tap to click) didn't work but it's option was active in system setting
power management can not be opened and battery icon in tray vanished.
there are no option to rollback updates (at least I am not aware of it), then I tried to remove all the upgraded packages. except for some of them which really ruined entire OS, I removed the rest, but the problem still exist.

can anyone tell me what to do? because this problem was the main reason I reinstalled kali. I really don't want to do it again.
thanks

Hello, we are not supporting partial upgrades. Either you keep your system as is after installation or you do full upgrade run ("apt update && apt full-upgrade").
