| Summary | 0004547: 2018.1 Kali Encrypted Persistence Password Setup Not Working | ||||
| Description | I’m new to the Kali OS, so this could totally just be human error on my part. I just bought a 64GB USB 3.0 to create an encrypted persistence drive off of. I used Win32 Disk Imager to install Kali 2018.1 and used Minitool to set up another partition (54-some GB). I’m setting up the LUKS encryption, up to the point where I create a passphrase. However, when I enter the passphrase I want it won’t type anything in. I thought maybe since it’s a password it’s just not showing up on my screen, but once I try to verify it confirm that it isn’t registering my keystrokes. I’ve tried this on a couple different computers with different USB ports. Regardless, it isn’t working. I’ve looked this up online, many have identified it as a bug but there is no concrete or proven fix. I’d like to settle this once and for all for me and anyone else with this issue. | ||||
| Steps To Reproduce | Follow steps on Kali.org for Live USB Persistence, having an error with setting up the passphrase. | ||||
| Additional Information | Like I said, I’m new to the OS and am just trying to learn. If this is human error or ignorance on my part, I’d appreciate it if you just show me how to fix the issue rather than attacking me. Thanks!! | ||||

Hi Rec0il, What you are describing is not a bug, but a user error and usage issue. You have posted your problem in the Kali bug tracker, which is the wrong place to do so. We welcome newcomers and have no intention to attack anyone, however there is a basic level of engagement we expect from our users which also involves reading the project documentation and abiding by its guidelines. We recommend you search for your answers in the proper location (which in this case would be the Kali forums, or IRC channel). Alternatively, you can check out our free training resources (which cover persistence and encryption) at https://kali.training Good luck! |
