  1. Open an elevated command prompt
  2. Type kali --default-user root
  3. Type kali to start instance
  • What's wrong / what should be happening instead:
    Instance should start with root as the default user but the instance starts with the original default user.
Steps To Reproduce
  1. Open an elevated command prompt
  2. Type kali --default-user root
  3. Type kali to start instance

After upgrading to Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.17763.316] WSL distro of Kali linux opens as the previously set default user (kali config --default-user root) but cannot be switched back to previous user with the same command (kali config --default-user username)

I noticed that step 2 in that list is missing the "config" option.
Could you please try kali config --default-user root again and see if that works?

@re4son: That was a typo...I was using kali config --default-user root. Also, after upgrading to Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.17763.316] and rebooting, kali starts as root but kali config --default-user username does not work to switch back to the user.

Please close. Restarting the LxssManager service commits the change. I'll put in a request to update the docs.
