Looks like the desktop settings you had before couldn't be saved properly. Did you update from a previous version or is it a clean install?
By the way, if you want to restore the default panel run
`pkill xfconf; rm -rf ~/.config/xfce4/{panel,xfconf}; xfce4-panel -r`

Maybe some of the panel configuration from the previous kali release caused it this error. Did you try the command I wrote? That should revert all the desktop to its defaults

i have decided to come back to 0 :
i have downloaded the .ova file : try the kali-undercover everything goes well.
i have downloaded the 64 bits iso: kali-undercover works only in one side kali switching to Windows but not Windows to Kali!!!!!!!!!!
what's wrong with me :-)

That makes no sense to me :( If you try kali-undercover with a new installation, it works perfectly. Didn't you make any change?
Could you also provide a complete screenshot of how the desktop looks after running kali-undercover the second time?

Hello, I have the same problem, and it doesn't happen when I try on a VM (which was a gnome VM I've updated to Xfce Kali 2019.4).
I join a screenshot of what it looks after getting back to kali.
Thanks for your understanding !

Hello STE4LTH, try reseting the panel configuration `pkill xfconf; rm -rf ~/.config/xfce4/{panel,xfconf}; xfce4-panel -r` and then run kali-undercover again

Yes, it works, but I just wanted to know if we could "repair" the undercover command (because this is not really convenient to use these commands each time...), or at least why is the desktop settings not saving properly.
Oh, and I don't know if it's because of this, but my settings (like the click with the trackpad and the invert scroll) are not saved at reboot.

Sure, I also want to fix it, the previous suggestion was just to discarding that possibility.
Ok then lets try another thing:
$ rm -rf ~/.config/xfce4/{panel,xfconf}; pkill -u $(whoami)
login again and then run:
$ /usr/share/kali-undercover/scripts/xfce4-desktop-profiles.py save desktop.tar.bz

That should create the `desktop.tar.bz` with all the desktop settings needed in it.
Extract it and send me the text inside panel.txt

Thank you for the help, but it doesn't create the file...

But there's an error message : GLib.Error('Key file contains line “Only” which is not a key-value pair, group, or comment', 'g-key-file-error-quark', 1)
So if it would help...

There is the issue then. The script doesn't generate the desktop backup file
Please run `xfconf-query -c xfce4-panel -lv` and paste the result
