Summary0006978: Kali Linux image in OCI cloud having issues with the default user and the ssh access
Description

Hi Team,

We have installed Kali Linux from Oracle cloud marketplace in OCI. The instance is provisioned successfully.
The issue is we are not able to access the vm via ssh, and are not able to login with the default user "debian" mentioned in the document. SSH Service is Failed while the vm is up.

Can you help us fixing the issue.

What document are you referring to?

Our cloud and live images have "kali" as default user.

And we use cloud-init to setup the initial environment. But we have not contributed any Kali image in the Oracle cloud so I'm not sure how the image you are using has been built and I don't know who is responsible for that image either.

The overview in the cloud market place mentioned debian as the default user and also specified this kali linux distribution in maintained and funded by Offensive Security.

If https://cloudmarketplace.oracle.com/marketplace/en_US/listing/86987876/ is the entry that your are referring to, it also says this in the overview "Creator - Amrita Mukherjee, https://www.linkedin.com/in/amritamukherjee1/" so it's clearly not maintained by us.

Can you provide some steps to resolve the issue like

  1. how to change the password of the root/default user from command line while rebooting the instance from gitbash/plink
  2. Can we use other image and host in oracle cloud
