I tried entering the default username and password, which I heard were root and toor. But when I enter those, it just says password incorrect.
Maybe try installing it on a virtual machine and try the password and username.

That was the default password for the root user. Now the default user is kali with password kali https://www.kali.org/docs/introduction/default-credentials/
