Summary0008868: PROMPT_COMMAND in user's .bashrc ?
Description

I am not familiar with Kali setup, so I am not sure where to find the source file for the bashrc file that endsup being setup for a user...

However my bashrc (kalli-rolling, version 2024.02, on WSL2) had what looked like a typo ? :
PROMPT_COMMAND="PROMPT_COMMAND=echo"

This incidently breaks direnv's hook into the shell (unless it is intended?) which is the workflow I mainly use when managing my various python virtualenvs.
It took me quite a while to track down... so I thought I let you guys know.

I could fix the direnv hook by simply setting PROMPT_COMMAND=echo but I was wondering if this was intended maybe ?
If it is, then what is the "advised way" for one dev to manage his/her virtualenvs ? there are many tools out there...

Cheers.

Kali now uses ZSH by default, so the file you might be looking for is ~/.zshrc. You can still run bash if you want
In bash PROMPT_COMMAND="PROMPT_COMMAND=echo" is used to introduce a new line before prompts, to copy our theme in zsh.
