Summary0008874: Installer doesn't work
Description

The installer for the OS is never working, the section Select and Install Software just doesn't work, ever

The main solution suggested online is to run the GRUB first and try the apps later, this work for some people, some, the other solution suggested in some threads is to avoid the main tools integrated with it and just install the desktop environment, but at that point i would be just using Fedora or Debian, it renders Kali totally useless and an unecessary hassle

But in my system, neither of those work, i've used the online installation, the local installation, it just goes to the last few items and it freezes, no solution anywhere

Is there any other insallation method or we only have this useless thing?

See https://www.kali.org/docs/community/submitting-issues-kali-bug-tracker/ how to write a useful bug report (if this is even a bug, could be also a support question belonging elsewhere).

e.g. what "doesn't work", what are you seeing, what are you actually doing?

Otherwise they (Kali Team) probably will never be able to do / say something about this.

Select and Install Software

In this step it would give a "Instalation step failed", i've found the recomendation to run the GRUB installation first and then go back to "Select and Install Software", this would sidestep the error message from before and let me install the programs in top of the basic system like the desktop environment and other tools, but here, the installation of these would always freeze around the 90% of the items and just stay there for more than an hour, no matter what selection of tools i choose, i understand many of these are available in some form or another in other systems but what i wanted is to try these and in this system

I'm sure secure boot is disabled and the partitions should have the apropiate sizes, i also have tried it with automatic partitions to not screw it up myself, i'm giving 65 GiB for it to have some good space

I have tried with the latest version and the one before, i've tried the installer with local files and when i thought my files could be curropted i changed to the online installer, but it didn't change the exact same problem. Base system installation runs fine, the GRUB installation too, is only the Select and Install Software step

I do am trying a dualboot, i don't know if is part of the issue, some recommend to deactivate windows protections, but this is during virtual machines and i'm attempting a dualboot to use the entire hardware
I still deactivated secure boot on bios and microsoft defender

Sorry if my first post sounded so frustrated, i appreciate a lot if you can find some solution or guidance

New user which never raised any issue / posted any comment and posting now a link to a 3rd party download side, doesn't look that trustworthy to me. Spam / malware? At least highly suspicious...

I could try zafi's solution searching the old iso myself on official media, just in case. I'll report on that but i've already tried with the immediate one before, maybe 4 or 5 versions back can do the trick

I'll to try to get the report with: https://www.kali.org/docs/troubleshooting/troubleshooting-a-kali-linux-install/ after "Select and Install Software" fails

But still, and i really hope you find this info useful
The recommended solution by must users was to run the GRUB installation and then go back to "Select and Instal Software" must of the reports i that i found on forums found it successful, others like me didn't, for some of us it runs, so it does sidesteps the error message, but then it directly freezes around 90%, i guess the order that directories are made must have something to do with the it running, but something must still happening, i'm giving it 100 GiB to make sure it has enough space, so i don't think that's the problem, i've also tried the installation that pulls everything online to make sure is not a corrupted iso

I'll send the bug report in a couple of hours, thanks a lot
