Desktop icons disappear, the wallpaper resets to the default, and I can't select any area on the desktop. Only the taskbar remains, and when I try to open anything, it freezes and doesn't work, as if it's just for display.

Please could you see if you are able to replicate this issue with the latest version of Kali Linux (https://www.kali.org/get-kali/)?
