Summary0009022: File Manager Issues on Systems With and Without a Dedicated GPU.
Description

Summary:
The file manager in Kali Linux exhibits unresponsiveness and functionality issues on both a laptop without a dedicated GPU and a PC with a dedicated GPU. These issues severely affect usability, requiring system restarts to regain functionality.

Environment Details:
Laptop (No Dedicated GPU):

OS Version: Latest Kali Linux
GNOME Shell Version: 47.1
Hardware:
No dedicated GPU
PC (With Dedicated GPU):

OS Version: Latest Kali Linux
GNOME Shell Version: 47.1
Hardware:
Dedicated GPU present
Steps to Reproduce:
For Laptop (No Dedicated GPU):

Open the file manager.
Close the file manager after use.
Repeat the process 2–3 times.
Observe: The file manager stops responding and fails to open on subsequent attempts.
For PC (With Dedicated GPU):

Open the file manager.
Observe intermittent lag and unresponsiveness.
In some cases, the file manager fails to open entirely.

Expected Behavior:
The file manager should function consistently and responsively, irrespective of the presence of a dedicated GPU.

Observed Behavior:
On the laptop without a GPU, the file manager stops responding after repeated use and fails to reopen until a system restart is performed.
On the PC with a GPU, the file manager frequently lags, fails to respond, and sometimes fails to open entirely.

Troubleshooting Steps Taken:
Verified that all system updates were applied (sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade).
Restarted the system to temporarily restore functionality.
Checked for logs related to the file manager using journalctl and dmesg. (Attach logs if available.)

Additional Notes:
The issue might be linked to graphical rendering, considering the differences in hardware setups.

Might require a bug report to that filemanager, AFAICT Kali team doesn't fix bugs in software and depend on the provider of that software to fix things.

Are the versions the same in ParrotOS and Kali?

Are the underlying libraries / dependencies in ParrotOS and Kali the same?

Are the underlying drivers in ParrotOS and Kali the same?

Comparing apples and oranges might not work.
