Summary0009121: Preparation for NetExec 1.4.0 release
Description

Hi everyone,

we (the NetExec devs) are planning to do a new release soon. To get this also into Kali as quickly as possible we would like to upgrade necessary dependencies beforehand, so that the release can be immediately pushed to Kali.

The necessary upgrades that need to happen are:

  • dploot >= 3.1.0 (should be picked up automatically when the release is live, but if not it has to be resolved manually)
  • python3-jwt has to be added to debian/control
  • python3-oscrypto has to be added to debian/control
  • impacket to at least commit e61ff5d7a5627d3bb01edc3f353ae5d1da996777 - The new regsecrets method to dump lsa/sam has been added to NetExec, src: https://github.com/fortra/impacket/pull/1898

Is this issue sufficient or should i create tickets for each of the ToDos/upgrades?

dploot has been updated in kali-dev. It should migrate soon in kali-rolling.

Regarding impacket: we usually wait for an upstream release to package the update. But I don't think a new release will be done soon.
I will check what we can do.

An update of impacket would be crucial for the new NetExec version. Otherwise the SMB protocol won't work.

Fyi, with NetExec v1.4.0 the python3-pywerview dependency can be removed. Not sure if this is automatically tracked when building the package

Hi,
update from our side: NetExec v1.4.0 is officially released: https://github.com/Pennyw0rth/NetExec/releases/tag/v1.4.0
Any progress on the rest of the ToDos?
Would be really nice if we could get the update into kali quickly, there are quite a few issues with the version currently in kali (e.g. issues as soon as a traceback appears due to logging changes in py3.13).

I have uploaded netexec version 1.4.0-0kali1 and impacket version 0.12.0+gite61ff5d-0kali1 in kali-dev.
It should be available on Monday in kali-rolling.
