Summary | 0009180: pinephone pro airplane mode automatically turns on
Description | when i disable cellular, airplane mode turns on. then when i turn off airplane mode, bluetooth automatically turns on. this has been an annoying issue on the pinephone pro in several distros. i never want airplane mode to turn on when i disable cellular. and i never want to enable bluetooth when disabling airplane mode. for some reason it seems like someone got all these switches linked to each other so that whenever you try to do one thing, something else happens, and then disabling that thing makes something else happen. i wish this were not the case. i have the options. just let me decide when to use them, if ever.
Most of the bugs you've raised here are not Kali-related. You should open issues on Phosh's or the related package's official repository. |

they are all kali related because each issue showed up through a kali package. kali claims to officially support the pinephone pro. if this is true, then it is kalis responsibility to deal with bugs regardless of which upstream source theyre from. from my perspective, it makes sense to have one place to post bugs. and due to the reasons above, that place ought to be here. i just spent five minutes and i couldnt even find a place to report phosh bugs to phosh upstream, and even if i did i probably wouldnt be able to report anything because most sites have a signup contract that contains language that is nonsense. my bug reports are flecks of gold, and youre lucky to get them. it cost me about 450 dollars in 2022 to get this phone, and you, the developer, dont even have one. and for the last two weeks ive actually been daily driving this monstrosity of a linux phone. like just the other day i saw someone getting carjacked and i tried to call 911 on my pinephone pro, but the mic didnt work. i know how you hate multiple issues in one post, so go ahead and open another bug for that. so when kali says they officially support the pinephone pro, and then i cant even call 911 and then youre telling me this isnt the place to report bugs.. then i have only one more bug that really ought to be reported and thats that kali says they officially support this phone when they do not. if apple says they support the iphone and then tells me to take up my issue with a chip manufacturer when theres a problem then its clear they dont support it. so why is kali any different. am i supposed to assume that linux world is necessarily dysfunctional.. i dont see a question mark on this keyboard or i might try using one. my battery has gone from 94 percent to 73 percent just writing this post. dont worry, i look forward to getting a phone that works in a few days,.and then youll be totally in the dark about how buggy your software is on the pinephone pro, just like you want to be. |

You’re mixing up support with responsibility for every upstream bug. Kali supports the PinePhone Pro to the extent that we integrate and package components to work together—but we don't control or develop every piece of software involved. If a bug is in a Kali package but originates from upstream (like Phosh or modem firmware), it needs to be fixed upstream. That’s how Linux works. Complaining here won't patch someone else’s code, and no, we're not going to mirror every upstream bug tracker just because some people don’t want to sign up elsewhere. As for your “bug reports are flecks of gold” comment—respectfully, no. Useful, clear, and focused bug reports are valuable. Rants packed with attitude and no actionable info are not. Spending $450 on a device doesn't buy a free pass to dump responsibility on people who didn’t create the broken components. And no, owning the hardware isn't a requirement to help debug software—knowing how to work within the ecosystem is. If you want things to improve, engage constructively or report upstream. If not, venting here won't change anything. |
|
you're comparing apple—a vertically integrated, closed ecosystem—with kali, which is a community-driven linux distribution built from hundreds of independent upstream projects. apple controls the hardware, software, drivers, firmware, and support chain. we don’t. kali doesn't manufacture the pinephone pro, write the modem firmware, or develop phosh. we package and integrate what the broader linux ecosystem builds. so yes, when something breaks upstream, the fix needs to happen upstream. that’s not us dodging responsibility—it’s how open-source works. |

I guess I'll give you my opinion. But you need to stop messing with your phone. If you need a portable device with Kali Linux, you can install Kali on some Raspberry Pi without any problems. Stop creating a huge number of non-Kali related tickets and I urge you to respect moderators' resources. |

The "upstream" / Kali not responsible for reports / handling of bugs in shipped packages not only pinephone specific and generally relevant for Kali. Suggestions to improve the documentation no make things like this in: 0008959 |
