Summary | 0009366: Update John the Ripper to latest jumbo release for KeePass 4 support
Description | The version of John the Ripper currently in Kali Linux (1.9.0-Jumbo-1+git20211102) does not support cracking KeePass KDBX 4.x database files. When using keepass2john with a KDBX 4 file, the following error appears: ! test.kdbx : File version '40001' is currently not supported! Recent upstream jumbo builds from November 2024 and later add support for KeePass KDBX 4.x and Argon2-based hashes. These changes are critical for password recovery and security auditing workflows using Kali. Please update the John the Ripper package in Kali Linux to the latest jumbo version to enable this essential functionality for penetration testers and security professionals. Thank you for your attention to package maintenance and your work supporting the community!
