Summary0009691: debian-installer in kali installation media wrongly assumes repository directory as /debian/
Description

debian-installer (d-i) in Kali installer DVD wrongly assumes the directory "mirror of the Debian archive is located" to be /debian/ instead of /kali/.

To reproduce:

  1. Choose an expert installer in DVD boot menu
  2. Walk through installing process until "Load installer component from installation media", choose "mirror-chooser".
  3. Continue installation process until reaching "Choose a mirror of the Debian archive", choose "Protocol for file downloads: https", and "enter information manually".
  4. "Please enter the directory in which the mirror of the Debian archive is located" default to "/debian/" instead of "/kali/", which causes d-i to fail looking up kali repository under mirror, unless modified.

Thanks for the report, I can indeed reproduce the issue. I wonder if it ever worked...

Anyway, I think I fixed it, and the fix should be in the next installer image (Kali version 2026.2, to be released in a few weeks), or the next weekly image if you can't wait.

Thanks again!
