Summary0009884: System freezes completely when moving, pinning, or unpinning icons on the GNOME Dash/Dock
Description

Summary:
System freezes completely when moving, pinning, or unpinning icons on the GNOME Dash/Dock

Description:
When interacting with the dock panel in the GNOME desktop environment (moving application shortcuts, pinning new apps, or unpinning existing ones), the entire operating system completely freezes.

The environment stops responding to mouse movements, clicks, and keyboard inputs. The only way to restore functionality is a hard reset (forced reboot via the physical power button).

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Boot into Kali Linux (GNOME Desktop Environment).
  2. Open the Activities overview or use the dock panel.
  3. Try to drag and reposition any icon, or right-click an app and try to pin/unpin it.
  4. Observe that the entire desktop environment completely freezes.

Additional environment info:

  • OS: Kali Linux (Latest rolling release)
  • Desktop Environment: GNOME
