Summary0009891: Casper Excalibur G900: NVIDIA dGPU and second NVMe inaccessible due to ACPI D3cold power resource issue
Description

Hardware:
Casper Excalibur G900 laptop
System vendor: CASPER BILGISAYAR SISTEMLERI
Product name: EXCALIBUR G900
Board name: NLCC 001
BIOS version: CP129 (08/25/2021)

Affected devices:

  • NVIDIA GA106M GeForce RTX 3060 Laptop GPU [10de:2520]
  • ADATA LEGEND 800 NVMe SSD [1cc1:627a]

Problem:
On this laptop, stock Kali Linux kernels allow an ACPI power resource used by the NVIDIA dGPU and the second NVMe slot to be powered off during initialization. Both devices can then become stuck in D3cold and inaccessible.

This is reproducible with:

  1. Kali 2026.2 Live, kernel 6.19.14+kali-amd64
  2. Installed Kali rolling, stock kernel 7.1.5+kali-amd64

Typical errors on the stock kernel include:

nvme 0000:02:00.0: Unable to change power state from D3cold to D0, device inaccessible
nouveau 0000:01:00.0: Unable to change power state from D3cold to D0, device inaccessible
snd_hda_intel 0000:01:00.1: Unable to change power state from D3cold to D0, device inaccessible

The issue is not specific to the proprietary NVIDIA driver, because it is also reproducible on the Kali Live image using nouveau.

Investigation:
drivers/acpi/power.c already contains dmi_leave_unused_power_resources_on[] and a similar quirk for the THUNDEROBOT ZERO laptop. The Casper Excalibur G900 is not currently included.

I added a narrowly scoped DMI entry for this exact machine:

DMI_SYS_VENDOR = "CASPER BILGISAYAR SISTEMLERI"
DMI_PRODUCT_NAME = "EXCALIBUR G900"
DMI_BOARD_NAME = "NLCC 001"

Result:
I rebuilt the Kali 7.1.5 kernel from the Kali source package with only this ACPI DMI quirk added.

Custom test kernel:
7.1.5+kali-g900fix-amd64

With the patched kernel:

  • The ADATA LEGEND 800 NVMe initializes normally and remains accessible.
  • The NVIDIA RTX 3060 can enter D3cold while idle and successfully wake to D0.
  • No "Unable to change power state from D3cold to D0, device inaccessible" errors occur.
  • No NVIDIA "fallen off the bus" condition occurs.
  • nouveau initializes the GA106 GPU and detects 6144 MiB VRAM.
  • DRI_PRIME=1 successfully renders using Mesa NVK/Zink.
  • A complete glmark2 run on the RTX 3060 completed successfully with a score of 4680.

For comparison, booting the stock 7.1.5+kali-amd64 kernel on the same installation immediately reproduces D3cold for both the NVIDIA GPU and ADATA NVMe.

I have attached the minimal patch used for testing.

The same type of DMI quirk has also been tested successfully on this machine with other Linux kernel versions.

If appropriate, I am also willing to submit this quirk to the upstream Linux ACPI maintainers.
