| Summary | 0009346: kali linux lost mouse cursor after update | ||||
| Description | When I did the update on 10/9/2025, then rebooted the computer. After the reboot process was completed, I could not see the mouse cursor on the desktop. I would like the development team to review this bug and fix it. | ||||

Maybe duplicate of https://bugs.kali.org/view.php?id=9336 Where do you run Kali? baremetal, in a VM? Which VM? What is your desktop environment? XFCE? GNOME? KDE? Thanks |

Probably this from 0009355 valid here as well (just drop the "QEMU") what has been stated by some one from the Kali team:

Good afternoon. I had this same issue with the cursor disappearing in XFCE and GNOME after doing an upgrade in Kali on my VMWare Workstation image (downloaded from the Kali site probably 6 months or so ago). To try and resolve the issue, I upgraded VMWare Workstation to the latest from the Broadcom site, still no luck. I also tried pulling the latest virtual machine image for VMWare from the Kali site, ran updates in Kali, and still had the same issue. The only way I could get a cursor was by using kernel 6.12.38-1kali1. Every time I tried to load into 6.16.8-1kali1 my cursor would disappear for some reason. Today I decided to do a fresh install using the ISO and build the image from scratch. I was surprised that after loading in to Kali and running updates, I can now boot into 6.16 with no mouse issues. This was driving me crazy for weeks where I was forced to use 6.12 but now happy to be able to use the latest version. Hopefully this works with all future updates and kernel versions will work as well. I guess now I just need to customize the new image with all my previous settings and configurations. Hope this works for others and helps! |

I found solution here: https://forums.kali.org/t/mouse-cursor-not-visible-any-more-after-kernel-update-on-vmware-guest/13668/13 |

It seems that this issue is fixed with the kernel Check https://www.kali.org/docs/general-use/kali-linux-sources-list-repositories/#enabling-kali-additional-branches for how to enable the kali-experimental repo. |
