Summary0001025: Realtek RTL8187 driver not correctly working with airodump-ng
Description

airodump-ng not capturing WPA handshake

airodump-ng seems to keep "jumping" channels even when a channel is specified

Steps To Reproduce

airmon-ng start wlan0
airodump-ng -c 11 --bsid XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX -w demo-test mon0
aireplay -0 1 -a XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX -c YY:YY:YY:YY:YY:YY mon0
airodump does not show or capture a WPA handshake
--ignore-negative-one does not fix issue

installing compat/backport drivers did not fix issue, rollback "killed" adaptor detection entirely.

Additional Information

3.12-kali-amd64 0000001 SMP Debian 3.12.6-2kali (2014-01-06)

even though this might be specific to aircrack, this is the result of the driver for this chipset provided within kali.

I also think that requiring to use compat/backport drivers is not the intention of the kali team - this should be as easy to set up as possible.

I would therefore kindly ask the Kali team to look into this.

wireless adapter: alfa awus036h

Thanks for the report. Unfortunately you haven't provided us with any useful debugging information, and we are unable to reproduce the issue. Have you tried "airmon-ng check kill", like the aircrack-ng documentation suggests?

you can also try starting your network card on the channel you want before runing airodump-ng like airmon-ng start "wlan0 6" if airmon-ng check kill don't fully work.
