Summary0002630: Network manager does not react to VPN connections
Description

To be able to connect through VPN services I've installed the following services with following command :
aptitude -r install network-manager-openvpn-gnome network-manager-pptp network-manager-pptp-gnome network-manager-strongswan network-manager-vpnc network-manager-vpnc-gnome

I had no issues here.

I added my PPTP-VPN connections of my PureVPN-account.

The following issues appear :

  1. I can only activate a VPN connection when sliding the connection bar in the Network Settings pane. It does not work in the (see attached image) black Network Manager drop down
  2. The VPN connections sliding bars do not work in the black Network Manager drop down
  3. The connection-icon on top of the screen does not change to the icon of a VPN connection (with padlock) when active
  4. When a VPN connection is active the network manager drop down says 'UIT' (not active in dutch)

As you can see in the attached screenshot... The settings pane says we have a connection with the Latvia VPN, but the Networking drop down says we have no VPN connection also the sliding bar of Latvia is off and the connection icon on top of the page says normal wired connection

Due to the age of the OS (Kali Moto [v1], Kali Safi [v2], Kali Rolling 2016.x), these legacy versions are no longer supported.
