Summary0003284: live-build crashes with wrong graphics card (nvidia)
Description

Hi folks,
this is not a real bug, more an information.
I found out, that a kali-livebuild crashes, when you have not a supported nvidia card.

This is NOT really a kali problem, more a package problem.

Steps To Reproduce

I have a graphics card in my notebook with an unsupported graphics chip (GF8600GS).
The build starts, but when the nvidia-package is going to be installed, it stops with the warning "this graphics card is no more supported"

Additional Information

The reason lies in the last nvidia-package: This package does no more support some graphics card and stops installation with the above message. This is a package-feature.

There are some solutions:

  1. Do not include nvidia-packages in your build (I do so, because I have Nvidia cards and use them for cracking passwords)

  2. Do a build with another graphics card. The graphics card is not needed for building, so just use the onboard chip or any other vesa card.

  3. Buy a new one, with a supported chip for the latest nvidia-package.

  4. Try to avoid the latest nvidia-packages, try to install nvidia-**-340.deb
    (I never tried this!)

Again: The Kali-team can do nothing about this behaviour. This is an information only, I thought it to be interesting for somebody.

This report can safely be closed!

Thanks for all your work.

Best regards

Hans
