|Target Version||Fixed in Version|
|Summary||0003860: Boot failure due to kernel udev device manager failure to mount swap partition at /dev/sda5.|
|Description||I upgraded my distro with apt-get upgrade on 3/2/2016. after the upgrade the next boot cannot proceed. The kernel udev device manager outputs "a start job is running for kernel device manager (1min 30sec)." The next output after time out is [depend] dependency failure for swap.The cycle begins all over again with the same output. |
I have boot with rw init=/bin/bash after pressing 'e' at grub advanced menu.
I have confirmed the uuid number in my fstab is same as output from blkid. but upon command free the swap is 0 0. the values only appear after swapon command. The change to /dev/sda5 in fstab doesnt help. formatting the partition and performing mkswap, swapon do not help. please assist urgently.
|Steps To Reproduce||apt-get upgrade|
|Additional Information||The laptop is intel pentium cpu, compaq CQ57.|
This worked for me:
What about disabling the swap partition in /etc/fstab?
Does this let you boot?
Can you show us the full error messages?
And your list of partitions?
Is your system fully up-to-date? "apt update && apt full-upgrade"
