Summary | 0004508: Grub is not installed (MBR, USB?)
Description | I have installed Kali by DVD on an USB stick and I have chosen that Grub should be installed on the USB stick as well (I have another Grub on my main SSD starting Windows and Ubuntu). I have done that twice and in both cases the USB Stick was not bootable / no Grub available. This seems to be a MBR problem only.
Steps To Reproduce | Install Kali and Grub on an USB stick with MBR, select the USB stick within the BIOS as main hard drive and try to load Grub. Maybe it is important that you have another Grub on another hard drive(?).
Additional Information | After the installation I have reinstalled Grub by hand and everything worked fine / I could start using the Grub on the USB stick. I have done the same procedure on another PC using UEFI and it worked fine.
Due to the age of the OS (Kali Moto [v1], Kali Safi [v2], Kali Rolling 2016.x/2017.x), these legacy versions are no longer supported. Please could you see if you are able to replicate this issue with the latest version of Kali Linux - https://www.kali.org/downloads/)? If you are still facing the same problem, feel free to re-open the ticket. If you choose to do this, could you provide more information to the issue you are facing, and also give information about your setup? |
