Summary0005090: GUI login screen fails to launch after selecting OS and resorts to text mode
Description

Installed Kali onto a GPT formatted partition table on a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 2nd Gen.
Process of installing went smoothly with no errors.
Selected the OS and the boot process went as expected.
At the point where the GUI login is supposed to lauch, it fails and I'm presented with the text login instead.
This has continuously happened for 6 installation attempts.
I've recreated the installation media with no change in the outcome.
However, it does eventually launch during text login or some time after logging in via text mode.

I have the same problem with new installations. I was trying only Kali KDE installation media because I use only KDE but it the problem is same after every new installation. It started, I think, since installation media 2018.1. GUI login was starting normally when installing from older media. It looks just like bug with the installation media cause my older installation still works fine after upgrading and installation from 2018.1, 2018.2, 2018.3 and 2018.4 has the above described behavior even after upgrading the installed system.

Due to the age of the OS (Kali Moto [v1], Kali Safi [v2], Kali Rolling <= 2018.4), these legacy versions are no longer supported.
