Summary | 0005370: Kali (debian) installer has only grub package and no grub-efi so cant install to uefi devices
Description | At bootloader installation step in debian installer, there is no option to install to efi partition even though one was partitioned and formatted because the grub-efi package is non-existent.
Steps To Reproduce | Follow all installer steps as though installing to uefi device and grub-install will fail as "grub" package is used rather than "grub-efi".
Additional Information | Workarounds were tried like skipping the bootloader step, finishing installation and using live mode to apt install grub-efi and install manually then update /etc/fstab...which did not work. A full manual install was attempted "gentoo" style using the files on the live cd following the relevant parts of the gentoo handbook....which also didnt work.
Due to the age of the OS (Kali Moto [v1], Kali Safi [v2], Kali Rolling <= 2019.1), these legacy versions are no longer supported. Please could you see if you are able to replicate this issue with the latest version of Kali Linux - https://www.kali.org/downloads/)? If you are still facing the same problem, feel free to re-open the ticket. If you choose to do this, could you provide more information to the issue you are facing, and also give information about your setup? |
