Summary0005481: Kali Linux (Rolling Release) misbehaves on Microsoft Hyper-V while 2.0 does not
Description

Under Hyper-V (Generations 1&2):
Booting Kali Linux 2019.2 into Live mode drops the user to a bash prompt instead of the desktop.
Installing Kali Linux 2019.2 and restarting the VM also drops the user to a bash prompt instead of the desktop.
Starting the X server from the live mode or installed to hard drive just hangs the system.

On the other hand, under Hyper-V (Generation 1):
Kali Linux 2.0 successfully arrives to the desktop when booted into Live mode.
Installing Kali Linux 2.0 and restarting the VM arrives at a graphical login prompt
Under Generation 2 the VM won't even boot.

Will update the bug report after more testing

HP Pavilion p050 desktop - upgraded to 32 GB of system memory
MSI GF75 Thin 8RD

Versions of Kali Linux tested:
2019.2
2.0 from 2015

Hyper-V Generations tested:
1 & 2

after some testing, I found out that the sddm display manager doesn't even start (installing xinit alleviates the problem), however, installing lightdm fixes the problem entirely.

Forgot to mention that this is the KDE version of Kali

Due to the age of the OS (Kali Moto [v1], Kali Safi [v2], Kali Rolling <= 2019.2), these legacy versions are no longer supported.
We will be closing this ticket due to inactivity.
