Summary0005924: black windows or only partial windows in vnc since dist-upgrade two weeks ago
Description

Hello team,
I hoped, that my problem would be solved with the daily actualisations. But nothing is done. Because after the last dist-upgrade yesterday the problem further exists, I want to change from vnc-service to rdp-service. But the rdp-service ends with a failure, if I start it:

systemctl status xrdp.service
● xrdp.service - xrdp daemon
Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/xrdp.service; disabled; vendor preset: disabled)
Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Tue 2019-12-17 07:59:02 CET; 15s ago
Docs: man:xrdp(8)
man:xrdp.ini(5)
Process: 5057 ExecStartPre=/bin/sh /usr/share/xrdp/socksetup (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)
Process: 5065 ExecStart=/usr/sbin/xrdp $XRDP_OPTIONS (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)

I find no explanation.

So I explain my problem in vnc, because I use vnc over several years without any problems:

The inet-daemon listens on port 5900

5900 stream tcp nowait nobody.tty /usr/sbin/tcpd /usr/bin/Xvnc -desktop lightdm -inetd -query localhost -once -geometry 1180x944 -pixelformat RGB888 -SecurityTypes none

In the case of contactimg by a client, inet starts the Xtigervnc . Tigervnc calls lightdm as display manager. After login the session manager gnome is called.

The first screenshot shows, that under the display manager allthing goes right. After clicking of theshutdown-buttom in the right edge, the panel with the start and restart options is correctly shown.

The second screenshot is maked under gnome. Here you see my black an half window problem.

  • I click on "terminal" and window is created, but it stays black.

  • I click on the shutdown-symbol, but the panel is only shown as a half panel.

What happens here ? I believe, that this isn't a problem of vnc, but from gome.

I'm sorry but usage under VNC is not a priority for us, so it seems unilkely that we will invest time into diagnosing your issue. Do you have the problem with Xfce too?

In the case of GNOME, do you reproduce the issue with both the wayland session and the X11 sessions ? (I'm not sure where you select the session in lightdm, for gdm3 there's a cog symbol showing up once you typed your username)

Ok,
I choose Xfce and no problems occured under my vnc session. It seems to be a problem of gnome

Hello,
after upgrading of tigervnc-common and tigervnc-standalone-server this morning, the problems with Gnome are resolved. It seems to be a problem of the vnc-server and not of the viewer. You can close the issue.

Best Regards
Rose
