Summary0006307: Complete system freeze on HDMI connection prior to bootup
Description

System freezes completely if an external monitor is connected to HDMI before booting up.
The system works, however, if HDMI is plugged in after booting up. However, Kali doesn't pick up the external display right away; I'd have to switch of the laptop's built-in display first so that the external monitor gets detected, or plug in/unplug the charger.

I'm using an ASUS TUF FX505DU_FX95DU
P.s I don't have the NVIDIA driver installed since it drains the battery more than HDMI connection already does (1 hour battery life with minimal use)

Steps To Reproduce

Plug in an external monitor via HDMI before bootup
After login, start any application/web browser
Right-click on Desktop (this is usually when system freezes up)
Or enter an invalid command on terminal

Additional Information

There's no rock-solid step that causes the system to freeze up, but I do know it always happens if HDMI is hooked in before powering on the laptop

[Update] I've found a workaround where I enabled automatic login in /etc/gdm3/daemon.conf

This issue has been around since kernel 5.5 through 5.7, and that's the only workaround I could think of.
I think it has to do with the switch from the login screen to the gdm3 session
I tried going through ~/.xsession-errors but I couldn't find anything that alludes to what the actual issue is.
Also, audio would still be running fine from a Youtube video, but the entire screen and inputs completely froze; you wouldn't be able to switch to a tty-2 or anything—only sysrq reisub

Thought I'd leave this here if anyone encounters the same problem.
