The platform is Compaq Presario CQ61, Intel Dual Core T4200 CPU, 320 GB HDD, 3 GB RAM

Now also tested on Apple Mac Mini Intel Dual Core, 60 GB HDD, 2 GB RAM with same result. System installation failure after partition step is completed.

Both Compaq (32/64 bit) and Mac Mini (32 bit) runs Kali live DVD without a hitch. It just won't install on HDD.

Both machines run BT 5r3 (32 bit) installations from HDD.

Can you show the messages displayed on the fourth terminal (CTRL+ALT+F4)? You can also use the command line on second/third terminal to get access to /var/log/syslog and then attach it here.

Looks like your install media is corrupt/broken. Please try to burn the image on another DVD and double check the checksum of the downloaded file before burning it.
